It’s been awhile since I’ve refashioned anything so I dug into my stash and found this skirt. Even though its still January and the spring weather is on and off around here, a girl loves a good t-shirt dress. I basically love anything floral print and this cotton skirt looked like it’d make a little t-shirt dress.
Before: The Skirt
After: T-Shirt Dress
Step by Step:
First, I used a seam ripper to take out the elastic waist band. Then I ironed it out to give me the most fabric possible.
I used one of my favorite Target T-Shirt Dresses as a template to cut out the fabric. First, I turned the skirt inside out, then traced my dress onto it.
A little help from my little doggie never hurts!
Pictured below is all of the pieces I cut out. There’s the front and back pieces, two sleeves, and enough for finishing off the collar.
Next I sewed up the sides and the shoulder seams. I finished edges of the collar pieces and sewed it right side together to the collar.
Then I flipped the collar piece under and top stitched all the way around the collar.
Next up was the sleeves. I finished the bottom edge and sewed the itty bitty side on the right.
Since the original skirt had a finished hem, I didn’t have to hem the bottom. This whole project took less than an hour and will be perfect for spring!
