Blue Gingham Peplum + M7571

Blue. Gingham. Peplum. Three of my favorites all wrapped up in one shirt. Since I am fabric busting I had to find a project for this adorable blue gingham fabric I picked up thrifting. I also noticed that I’ve been sewing a lot of dresses and not a lot of anything else.

Blue Gingham Dress

Dresses are so fun and so pretty to sew but I hardly have anything else in my me-made closet. I think that they are so fun and easy but I am planning to expand my closet with a few new shirts and maybe some pants in my future.

Everyone knows I love a good peplum. It is a flattering look on pretty much everyone, especially me. I refashioned a peplum top here. I’m also a sucker for gingham like my favorite gingham dress you can see here.

This pattern, McCalls 7571, was simple to sew but turned out crazy big on me. I had to take it in a bit at the side seams at the end of the project. I knew it was going to be a loose style shirt because this pattern is for cottons and cotton blends. Meaning it isn’t made for stretchy fabric, but it turned out way too wide.

I also skipped the neck ties on it and finished off the neckline instead. It’s open and floppy but it’s comfortable and casual.

It turned out cute and the blue gingham is lightweight. This piece will work perfect for the rest of summer and into fall. It’s been pretty hot around here these days.
